About this tool
Choose PNG files and save them as GIF. GIF uses up to 256 colors and on/off transparency. Only the first frame or page is converted. PNG stores pixels without lossy compression and supports transparency. It suits screenshots and line art, but converting a photo to PNG can increase its file size. GIF is limited to 256 colors and on/off transparency. The image converter produces a still image, not an animation.
Change an image to PNG, JPG, WebP, AVIF, GIF, BMP, ICO or TIFF. JPG and BMP fill transparency with white. Animated inputs and multi-page TIFFs keep only the first frame or page.
Questions
Will PNG to GIF preserve transparency, dimensions and every frame?
PNG stores pixels without lossy compression and supports transparency. It suits screenshots and line art, but converting a photo to PNG can increase its file size. GIF is limited to 256 colors and on/off transparency. The image converter produces a still image, not an animation. Dimensions are kept except when creating ICO sizes. Only the first animation frame or TIFF page is converted.
What happens to transparent areas?
PNG, WebP, AVIF, TIFF and ICO preserve transparency. GIF uses up to 256 colors and on/off transparency. JPG and BMP fill transparent areas with white.
Which input formats can it read?
It reads any image your browser can decode, including PNG, JPG, WebP, AVIF, GIF, BMP and ICO where supported. TIFF uses a separate decoder. Only the first animation frame or TIFF page is converted.
Does converting improve quality?
No. Converting cannot restore detail that is already lost. Converting a JPG to PNG makes a larger file with the same pixels, and converting to JPG re-compresses the image.
Is the image uploaded?
No. Conversion runs in your browser tab, so the files stay on your device.
