Bank statement converter
Extract transactions from a text-based bank statement PDF to CSV or Excel. Review dates and column mappings in your browser. No file uploads.
How it works
- 1Choose a text-based statement PDF. Enter its password if needed.
- 2Choose month first or day first for numeric dates, then extract transactions.
- 3Review the first 100 transactions and source column examples. Correct the mappings if needed.
- 4Download all extracted transactions as CSV or XLSX and reconcile them against the original statement.
About this tool
Convert a text-based bank statement PDF to CSV or Excel by extracting transactions and reviewing the column mappings in your browser. Turn selectable PDF statement text into a transaction table using text positions and column headers. The tool recognizes separate debit and credit columns or a single signed amount column, with an optional running balance. It joins nearby description lines and lets you correct column mappings before export. Layout detection is approximate: compare the preview, row count and exported totals with your statement before using the data for bookkeeping. Scanned PDFs need OCR elsewhere first.
Questions
Which statement layouts can it read?
It looks for date, description, withdrawal or paid out, deposit or paid in, amount and balance headers. Separate debit and credit columns and single signed amount columns are supported. Layouts vary, so no specific bank compatibility is claimed. Complex tables, merged text columns and unusually positioned headers may need manual work elsewhere.
How are dates and negative amounts handled?
Choose the order for numeric dates such as 03/04/2025. ISO dates and named months such as 04 Mar 2025 or Mar 04 are recognized. Dates with a year become YYYY-MM-DD; dates without a year stay as printed. Amounts use a decimal point and may have thousands commas, currency symbols, parentheses, a minus sign or DR suffix. DR is negative and CR is positive. Debit and credit exports are positive magnitudes; Amount is credit minus debit or the signed amount from the PDF.
Can it convert scanned or password-protected statements?
Scanned statements without a text layer are not supported yet. Password-protected PDFs can be opened by entering the correct password in the tool. Neither the password nor the statement is uploaded.
What is included in CSV and Excel downloads?
Both contain Date, Description, Debit, Credit, Amount and Balance columns for all mapped transactions, including rows beyond the 100-row preview. Missing values are blank. XLSX amounts are numeric cells. CSV text that begins with a spreadsheet formula marker is prefixed with an apostrophe to keep it as text. Currency conversion and balance reconciliation are not performed.
Should I check the extracted data?
Yes. Repeated headers and nearby description lines are handled heuristically. Opening and closing balance lines are excluded when recognized. Review warnings, date order, row count, column mappings and totals against the PDF. A preview without warnings does not prove that every transaction was captured.
