Compress PDF
Reduce a PDF with compression presets or a target size in KB. Pages become images, so text is no longer selectable. Files stay on your device.
How it works
- 1Choose a PDF up to 25 MB and 30 pages. Password-protected PDFs are not supported.
- 2Select low, medium or high compression, or enter a target in KB.
- 3Compress the pages and compare the original size with the result. Text, links and forms become static images.
- 4Download the PDF and check that small text is still readable.

About this tool
Compress a PDF by rebuilding its pages as JPEG images and trying a target file size or compression preset in your browser. This tool renders each PDF page and rebuilds it as a JPEG image at the original page dimensions. It can shrink image-heavy PDFs, but a small text-only PDF may grow. Target mode searches JPEG quality, then lowers resolution if needed. Review the result for readable text before using it.
Questions
Will text remain selectable?
No. Every output page is a JPEG image. Searchable text, interactive forms, links, bookmarks and accessibility tags are not preserved.
Is the target size guaranteed?
No. The tool tries lower JPEG quality and resolution within bounded limits. If it cannot reach the target, it says so and offers the smallest result it found. Very small targets can make text unreadable.
Why can the result be larger?
Compact vector text can take fewer bytes than a full-page image. Raster compression is better suited to scanned or image-heavy documents. Keep the original if the result is larger.
How are KB and MB measured?
Here, 1 KB means 1,024 bytes and 1 MB means 1,024 KB. A service using decimal units may report a different size or enforce a different limit.
Are files uploaded?
No. Rendering, quality searches and PDF generation happen in your browser. Limits of 25 MB and 30 pages help bound memory use.
