Remove image metadata

Strip EXIF, GPS location, camera and date details from JPG, PNG or WebP photos. Shows what was found first. Nothing is uploaded.

How it works

  1. 1Choose one or more images. The metadata found in each file is listed.
  2. 2Remove metadata. The image is redrawn in your browser without the metadata.
  3. 3The cleaned file is read again to confirm the metadata is gone. Download it, or all files as a ZIP.

About this tool

Remove EXIF, GPS and camera metadata from a photo by saving a cleaned image copy in your browser. Phone and camera photos often record where and when they were taken, and which device took them. This tool lists that metadata for each file, then saves a copy of the image without it.

Questions

Does removing metadata reduce image quality?

Yes, slightly. JPG and WebP are decoded and encoded again, so they are recompressed. PNG is re-encoded without loss. If you need the original bytes, keep the original file.

What metadata is checked?

Camera make and model, date taken, GPS coordinates, author, copyright, software, and the other EXIF, IPTC and XMP fields the file contains. Each file is read again after cleaning and the remaining count is shown.

Does the image turn sideways?

No. Cameras store rotation in an orientation tag instead of rotating the pixels. The tool applies that rotation to the pixels before removing the tag, so the photo looks the same.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. Metadata is read and removed in your browser tab, so the photos stay on your device.
