About this tool

Questions

Why might a MOV clip fail when creating a GIF?

MOV can contain different video codecs. The browser must decode the source before this tool can make a GIF. Try a compatible source recording if decoding fails. The GIF is silent and reduced to a limited-color animation.

How can I make a smaller GIF?

Use a shorter clip, a smaller width or a lower frame rate. GIF supports only 256 colours per frame, so photos may lose subtle colour detail.

What are the limits?

Clips can be up to 60 seconds, 600 frames and 1280 pixels wide, with up to 160 million total output pixels. Reduce width, frame rate or duration for larger clips.

Does the GIF keep audio?

No. GIF cannot contain audio. The animation loops forever, and frame delays are rounded to GIF's 10 millisecond precision.

Is my video uploaded?

No. Video decoding and GIF encoding happen on your device.
