About this tool
SRT is the most widely supported subtitle format. This tool writes numbered cues with a comma before the milliseconds. WebVTT settings such as position and alignment are dropped.
Convert SRT, WebVTT, SBV or ASS/SSA subtitles to SRT or VTT while keeping cue text and timings. Subtitle formats store the same timed text in different ways. This tool reads the cue timings and text, then writes them in the format you choose. ASS and SSA styling such as fonts, colors and positions is removed.
Questions
Will VTT positioning survive conversion to SRT?
No. The converter writes numbered SRT cues with the original timing and text, but drops WebVTT position and alignment settings. Test the downloaded file in the receiving player.
Can I convert subtitles without changing their timing?
Yes. Format conversion keeps cue start and end times. Use Shift subtitles separately if the dialogue is early, late or drifts over time.
Are my subtitle files uploaded?
No. The file is read and converted by code running in your browser tab.
Are the timings changed?
No. Start and end times are read and written to the millisecond. Converting SRT to VTT and back gives the same timings.
What happens to styling in ASS or SSA files?
Font, color, position and animation tags are removed. Only the dialogue text is kept, with its line breaks.
Why does my file show no cues?
Each cue needs a timing line such as 00:00:01,000 --> 00:00:03,000. Check that the file is a subtitle file and not plain text.
