M4A to WAV

Convert M4A audio to WAV in your browser. Convert multiple files without another round of lossy compression. Nothing is uploaded.

How it works

  1. 1Choose one or more audio files.
  2. 2Pick an output format and a bitrate for lossy audio.
  3. 3Convert, then download the result or a ZIP of all files.

About this tool

Turn M4A files into WAV. The output cannot restore detail already lost in the source. M4A output contains AAC audio. M4A names the container; AAC names the audio codec. This is not Apple Lossless (ALAC) output. WAV output is uncompressed 16-bit PCM. It is useful for editing, but is larger than compressed audio and cannot recover lost detail.

Convert audio to MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, Opus or FLAC in your browser, with bitrate controls for lossy outputs. Change audio format, choose a bitrate for compressed outputs and convert several files at once. OGG inputs can contain Vorbis or Opus; OGG outputs use Opus.

Questions

Does M4A to WAV improve audio quality?

M4A output contains AAC audio. M4A names the container; AAC names the audio codec. This is not Apple Lossless (ALAC) output. WAV output is uncompressed 16-bit PCM. It is useful for editing, but is larger than compressed audio and cannot recover lost detail. Conversion cannot improve source quality. Input decoding depends on your browser.

Which formats are supported?

MP3, WAV, M4A/AAC, OGG with Vorbis or Opus, Opus and FLAC can be read when your browser supports decoding their audio. Outputs are MP3, WAV, M4A/AAC, OGG with Opus, Opus and FLAC. Vorbis encoding is not available.

What bitrate should I choose?

128 kbps suits speech and smaller music files. 192 or 256 kbps keeps more detail. A higher bitrate makes a larger file and cannot restore detail already lost.

Does converting to WAV or FLAC improve quality?

No. They avoid another round of lossy compression, but cannot recover detail from an MP3 or other lossy source. WAV output uses 16-bit PCM.

Can I convert WMA, AMR or AIFF?

These formats are tried using your browser's audio decoder. If it cannot read them, this tool explains the limitation. WMA and AMR usually need a separate converter.

Are files uploaded?

No. Decoding and encoding happen in your browser tab. Large files need enough memory on your device.
