About this tool
KML is the format Google Earth and many mapping tools import. Each GPX track becomes a line, and each waypoint becomes a Placemark point.
Convert GPS tracks from GPX, KML, TCX, GeoJSON or FIT to GPX, KML, GeoJSON or CSV without uploading the route. GPS apps and devices save routes and tracks in different formats. This tool reads the tracks and waypoints from one format and writes them in another. Elevation and timestamps are kept when the source has them.
Questions
How do I use GPX to KML, and what should I check?
KML is the format Google Earth and many mapping tools import. Each GPX track becomes a line, and each waypoint becomes a Placemark point.
Are my GPS files uploaded?
No. The file is parsed and converted by code running in your browser tab, so your routes stay on your device.
Are elevation and time kept?
Yes, when the source has them. GPX and TCX tracks keep elevation and per-point times. KML and GeoJSON output keeps elevation, and CSV has columns for lat, lon, ele and time.
Can it read FIT files from my watch?
It reads the GPS records in a FIT activity file and writes them as one track. Heart rate, cadence and other sensor fields are not included in the output.
What is the difference between a track and a waypoint?
A track is a recorded line of points, such as a run or a ride. A waypoint is a single named point, such as a trailhead. In GeoJSON and KML, a track becomes a LineString, or a MultiLineString when it has several segments.
